Making Dreams Come True

OUR SIGNATURE PROGRAM

Exiliant's Making Dreams Come True program is like the Make A Wish Foundation, in a way. But instead of being directed toward terminally ill children, our services are directed toward children of neglect, in Harnett and Wake counties in North Carolina, who have little chance of experiencing life-enhancing activities that many other children experience every day.

Through the Making Dreams Come True program, compassionate individuals, local businesses and engaged churches help forgotten children experience the joys and delights of childhood through common, everyday activities that are a part of normal life for many other children. The impact this can have in the life of a child is far greater than you might suspect.

Activities experienced through the Making Dreams Come True program could include:

  • The arts (music, art, dance, or gymnastics lessons)

  • Cultural experiences (theater productions, concerts, or museums)

  • Sports (swimming lessons and golf, baseball, basketball, or tennis clinics)

  • Animals (such as horseback riding lessons, horse therapy, or trips to the zoo)

  • Birthday celebrations (decorations, cakes, and perhaps clowns)

Here is a list of potential funding opportunities, but your imagination could lead to many others.

ONE STORY

A family involved with Exiliant learned that their seven-year-old foster child had never experienced someone celebrating his birthday. In fact, the boy didn’t even know the month or day of his birthday. It was heartbreaking for the family to realize that he had never had anyone sing “Happy Birthday” to him… or bake him a cake… or throw him a party… or buy gifts for him… or simply let him know that it was a good thing that he was born.

So, the family threw him his first-ever birthday party at the ripe old age of eight. Leading up to the party he kept asking, “Will there be cake? Will there be ice cream?” and, “Will there be a gift?” To which the family was able to answer…Yes! Yes! And Yes!

So, they baked a cake for him, bought ice cream, bought several presents, decorated a special birthday chair, blew up balloons, invited people over, and threw him his first-ever birthday party. The joy and delight in his eyes was obvious to all. He couldn’t contain his happiness and literally danced with joy when he received his first-ever birthday present.

Hopefully, he tasted a little bit of the delight of God’s love for Him and of knowing that there are people who actually care that he is alive. It was a sweet and heart-warming time. Anyone who was there would have been moved.
